The back story

About Lisbon at the table: the stars, the tascas and the sea

In the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Portugal, Lisbon has three restaurants with Two Stars, José Avillez’s Belcanto in Chiado, Henrique Sá Pessoa in Campo de Ourique and Fifty Seconds at the top of the Vasco da Gama Tower, and twelve with One. Beside them are the city’s tascas and cervejarias, where the menu follows the sea: grilled fish, clams, prawns and, in June, sardines.

The starred tables

Belcanto, on the Rua Serpa Pinto in Chiado, Henrique Sá Pessoa at the Páteo Bagatela and Fifty Seconds, at the top of the Vasco da Gama Tower, hold Two MICHELIN Stars in the 2026 guide. The one-stars range from Encanto, José Avillez’s vegetarian dining room on the Largo de São Carlos, to three Japanese counters (Kabuki, YŌSO and Kanazawa), Feitoria on the river at Belém and CURA at the Four Seasons Ritz.

The Bib Gourmands

Five Lisbon restaurants hold a Bib Gourmand in 2026, MICHELIN’s mark for good quality, good value cooking: Ofício and Carnal near the Bairro Alto, Pigmeu in Campo de Ourique, Canalha in Belém and Zunzum on the riverfront.

Book the starred tables weeks ahead; at the cervejarias, come early or expect a queue.

The cervejarias

Cervejaria Ramiro, at the foot of the Avenida Almirante Reis, is the classic seafood hall.

Pastéis and petiscos

The pastel de nata is eaten warm, with cinnamon, at any hour; the Pastéis de Belém have been made at the same address since 1837, in the bakery’s own words.

Our advice: see our article on Lisbon’s cooking for the dishes to look for, and where to taste them.
