Belém, on the river west of the centre, is where the ships of the Age of Discovery set out. The Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém, both UNESCO World Heritage, stand a short walk apart, with MAAT, the Centro Cultural de Belém and the Coaches Museum between them.
